New Paper: Dark Matter Resolution Convergence Tests

Late last week, we submitted a new article that focuses on convergence tests on dark matter resolution in simulations that deal with a gas-dominated collapse. This is relevant in collapse problems that are centered in a dark matter halo, such as metal-free stars and black holes that directly collapse from a proto-galactic gas cloud. When the dark matter particles are too massive, they can (artifically) heat the gas in their wakes.

This numerical problem has been known for quite some time, but here we present a detailed convergence test, to our knowledge, for the first time. The main result of our findings is that the gravitationally-bound core must be 100 times more massive than a single dark matter particle, providing a valuable benchmark for collapse simulations.
