New opening for a postdoctoral researcher

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the field of computational and theoretical cosmology at the Center for Relativistic Astrophysics (CRA) in the Georgia Institute of Technology. The successful candidate will work in conjunction with Dr. John Wise. The position is for 2 years with a possible extension to 3 years, depending on funding availability. The appointment can begin at anytime before September 1, 2012.

The postdoc will have the choice to work on problems in Population III star formation and feedback, current and high-redshift galaxy formation, reionization, black hole growth, radiative transfer methods, and/or any other related research. Expertise in running and analyzing cosmological simulations in large facilities is highly desired, and experience in parallel code development is preferred.

The CRA is a growing group of seven faculty (by mid-2012), specializing in theoretical topics in high-energy astrophysics, galaxy formation, cosmology, numerical relativity, and particle astrophysics. Local high-performance computing facilities include a new 512-core dedicated cluster, shared access to a GPU-equipped 2000-core cluster, and a visualization studio with a stereo projection wall and a 16-monitor display wall. The successful candidate will also have access to the NASA and Teragrid supercomputers. Travel and research funds will be available.

Applications should electronically send a CV, list of publications, and a brief (up to 3 pages) research statement in PDF format to Dr. John Wise (jwise [at] physics.gatech.edu) no later than November 30, 2011. Arrange for three letters of references to be sent directly to the same address by the same deadline. Inquiries about this position can be sent to Dr. John Wise (jwise [at] physics.gatech.edu).
